Friday and Saturday, our people onshore were discouraged with the days being very stormy and cold.

January 9, 1620: We agreed that every man should build his own house. The common house, being near finished wanted only covering, it being about twenty feet square. Some should make mortar, and some gather thatch, so that in four days half of it was thatched. Frost and foul weather hindered us much, this time of the year seldom could we work half the week.

January 29, 1620: In the morning cold frost and sleet; both the longboat and the shallop brought our common goods onshore.

February 9, 1620: The cold weather continued, so that we could do little work. That afternoon our little house for our sick people was set on fire by a spark that kindled the roof, but no great harm was done.
